An outraged mom, amid a speech to her local school board, was interrupted by a police officer while attempting to display graphic images from a book available in the school library.
The incident unfolded at a Hillsborough public school board meeting last week as the mom presented images from the graphic novel, “Blankets.”
“The book also contains crass talk like this: ‘Church camp is the best place to score p—y,’” Tampa mom Julie Gebhards explained to the school board, according to the New York Post. “Also: ‘Did you feel up her t—ies?’ It has images of masturbation, naked boys peeing on each other and sexual assault of a child. … I imagine we’re all uncomfortable now.”
Gebhards went on to pull out a large poster of an illustration from the book showing subjects engaged in nudity and sex acts, pointing out the book had already been condemned by Hillsborough County parents, only to be later unanimously approved by a school board.
At this point, an officer intervenes during Gebhards’ speech, forcing her to fold up her display, as she tells the board, “This is in children’s libraries here in Hillsborough County…Approved by that committee unanimously.”
The New York Post notes the board chair moved on to the next speaker but advised that “No one is allowed to bring displays.”
Commenting on the blatant hypocrisy, X account @LibsofTikTok which popularized the video correctly noted the irony, remarking, “Too obscene for a room of adults but totally OK for kids in school!”
