A Miss Universe Philippines contestant graciously rejected the policy of allowing transgender athletes playing in female sports.
During the Q&A portion of the Miss Universe Philippines 2023 event that culminated on Saturday, one Top 5 finalist was asked if transgender individuals should be allowed to participate in female sporting events.
“Trans athletes are now being allowed to compete in women’s sports events in many international competitions. Do you think that this is a step in the right direction? Why, or why not?” asked one judge.
22-year-old Miss Baguio representative Krishnah Marie Gravidez answered:
“I am all for equality for all genders. I believe that we have the right to participate in any sports. However, I believe that there is a biological reason that we should not allow trans women in the women category, because I believe that there is a right time for that and there is right measurements to be done.”
Her gracious response was met with applause at the event and praise online.

The Miss Universe Organization was bought up by Thai transgender media tycoon Jakapong “Anne” Jakrajutatip in 2022, who pledged to allow LGBTQ and transgender individuals to participate.
“It’s a universal platform…I can become the aspiration for so many people, in particular women, LGBTQ, so they can transform,” she told Reuters.
