The mainstream media is finally beginning to admit that Ukraine has lost the war against Russia as U.S. financial assistance dries up.

During a Monday segment on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe”, former Council on Foreign Relations President Richard Haas pushed back against Biden regime talking points that the war could take another couple of years for Ukraine to achieve victory against Russia.

“I simply don’t see it. Russia is on a war footing. They have access also to arms from North Korea and Iran,” Haas said. “So I just think anytime in foreign policy, anytime in life there’s a big gap between what you’re trying to do and your ability to do it, you’ve either got to increase your means or lower your goals.”

“And I think here the only realistic option as a tactical measure is to lower our goals,” he added.

Host Joe Scarborough agreed, saying the situation in Ukraine has been “fluid for quite some time” and now Russia has “dug in” on its defensive positions on the eastern front which has “made all the difference.”

The BBC’s U.S. correspondent Katty Kay confirmed Scarborough’s remarks, saying that Ukraine has only taken “0.25% of the land that Russia took in the east of the country.”

“That is nothing, and clearly not nearly enough to persuade policymakers up on Capitol Hill that it’s worth carrying on funding them,” Kay said.

Kay then asked Haas if “lowering our goals” would “look like victory for [Russian President] Vladimir Putin?”

“I mean effectively he’ll be able to sell that and he will sell that as victory back at home. But even if we step back with a more objective eye and think, well, they didn’t take Kiev, but they took a big chunk of the country in the east. And was this an indication that the Russians actually won effectively?”

Haas said no because he claimed “Russia wanted to eliminate Ukraine as a sovereign nation.”

Of course, Putin’s own speeches to his people clearly outlined Russia’s objective in launching its special operation in Ukraine, which never included “taking Kiev” or eliminating the country’s sovereignty.

Putin explained the reasons behind Russia’s special military operation were threefold: to liberate the Donbass region of Ukraine from Kiev’s persecution, to eliminate the clandestine Pentagon-backed biolabs in Ukraine, and to “demilitarize and de-Nazify Ukraine” to prevent it joining NATO.

“The appearance of Russian troops near Kiev and other cities in Ukraine is not connected with the intention to occupy this country. We do not have such a goal, and I also explicitly stated this in my address on February 24,” Putin said in March 2022.

In the months since it launched its counteroffensive in June, Ukraine lost hundreds of thousands of soldiers and is now conscripting middle-aged men to fight on the frontlines.

President Volodymyr Zelensky has since resorted to begging the U.S. for more financial backing in the form of a line of credit.

“If you can’t give us some financial support, okay please give us credit and we will give you back money,” Zelensky said last week.
