MSNBC host Rachel Maddow on Monday railed against her own network, accusing it of racism after it fired two “non-white” primetime hosts, including Joy Reid.

Maddow unloaded during a segment of “The Rachel Maddow Show” discussing shakeups at the network, mentioning how she believed it was a bad decision on the part of producers to fire Reid.

“There is no colleague for whom I have had more affection and more respect than Joy Reid,” Maddow said. “I love everything about her. I have learned so much from her. I have so much more to learn from her. I do not want to lose her as a colleague here at MSNBC. And personally, I think it is a bad mistake
to let her walk out the door. It is not my call, and I understand that. But that’s what I think.”

She went on to say she was “unnerved” by the firings of her non-white colleagues.

“I will tell you, it is also unnerving to see that on a network where we’ve got two non-white hosts in primetime, both of our non-white hosts in primetime are losing their shows, as is Katie Fang on the weekend. And that feels worse than bad, no matter who replaces them. That feels indefensible, and I do not defend it.”

Responding to Maddow’s criticisms, conservative radio hosts Clay Travis and Buck Sexton recommended Maddow should donate part of her multi-million dollar salary to Reid and her staff if she’s that upset by the reorganization.

Maddow’s negative commentary followed Saturday’s firing of “The Reidout” host Reid, as part of a major overhaul under the network’s new president Rebecca Kutler.

On top of Reid, MSNBC also fired Alex Wagner, black female weekend hosts Melissa Harris-Perry and Tiffany Cross, following last month’s departure of MSNBC President Rashida Jones.

Former MSNBC host Keith Olbermann also suggested the firings were racist on his Monday morning podcast, saying, “MSNBC fired Joy Reid, and yes it is racist and maybe worse. Yes, it is designed to keep out people who might think differently…And it is designed to reward professional political salespeople like ex-party chairmen and former press secretaries who will do what they are told by their bosses.”

“But most of all, since they also fired Alex Wagner as they fired Joy Reid, at least The New York Times says this, it means that four women of color have solo hosted prominent shows on MSNBC, and all four of them have now been fired,” he added.

On Sunday, Reid appeared on a podcast sobbing uncontrollably and claiming she was fired despite her show supposedly having value.

President Donald Trump also sounded off on the layoffs over the weekend, noting, “Lowlife Chairman of ‘Concast,’ Brian Roberts, the owner of Ratings Challenged NBC and MSDNC, has finally gotten the nerve up to fire one of the least talented people in television, the mentally obnoxious racist, Joy Reid.”
