Police in Staten Island, New York, arrested residents who were attempting to block a busload of illegal aliens from being housed at a nearby nursing home.
The incident unfolded Tuesday night as outraged residents of the Midland Beach neighborhood took part in a demonstration protesting the arrival of a bus bringing migrants to a former senior facility-turned-temporary shelter.
Police descended on the area where upset protesters filled the streets in scenes reminiscent of the 2020 BLM riots.
However, unlike in the BLM riots, police actually arrested people.
Chaotic footage from the protest shows swarms of police attempting to quell protesters and taking residents into custody.
NY Daily News detailed the fracas:
Cops stepped in and dragged demonstrators from the street. A cop suffered a knee injury when 48-year-old Vadim Dlyakov, who lives down the block from the assisted living facility, put up a fight, cops said.
Dylakov was charged with assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and obstructing government administration. His arraignment in Staten Island Criminal Court was pending Wednesday.
Eight men and one woman were taken into custody and let go with disorderly conduct summonses that they will have to answer in court at a later date.
At one point, a resident filmed officers’ faces as he criticized them, telling the cops to “Take your badge off!” after one knocked his phone out of his hand.
Activist Curtis Sliwa highlighted how police stood down during the BLM and Antifa riots, but now “stand against the people of Staten Island.”
“When ANTIFA was attacking you the people of Staten Island stood with you & now you stand against the people of Staten Island? How do you even look at yourselves in the mirror?” Sliwa told police.

Video also shows residents shouting, “You’re not welcome!” “You are an illegal!” and “Fuck you!” and shining a strobe light at the migrant housing facility.
On Wednesday, Democrat New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who has been struggling to grapple with the migrant crisis, condemned the protesters and asked angered residents to sympathize with the migrants.
“We have 8.3 million New Yorkers and we cannot allow the numerical minority that shows an ugly display of how we deal with crisis be used as an example of what New Yorkers are doing. Of course, New Yorkers are frustrated, New Yorkers are really concerned,” the mayor said.
“And even the migrants are really concerned,” Adams added. “We are both stating that this crisis should be dealt with in a manner where the national government carries out the role that it is supposed to. It should not be left on the backs of New York City residents.”
“I understand the frustration that New Yorkers are going through and understand the frustration that asylum seekers are experiencing as well,” he said.
Protests on Staten Island have been ongoing since last month, with residents last week holding a demonstration where they chanted, “Get them out! Get them out!” in unison while also waving the Gadsden “Don’t tread on me flag.”
CBS News reports: “more than 100,000 migrants have arrived in New York City since last year, prompting officials to set up 200 emergency shelters in all five boroughs.”
Perhaps the crisis now impacting a major Democrat stronghold will finally wake voters up to the Biden administration’s negligence on the open southern border.
