A Texas trooper encountered a crying child wandering alone near the U.S.-Mexico border after he was left stranded by a smuggling guide this week.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS) released footage showing a trooper approaching a lone boy in a rural area of Maverick County near the Rio Grande on Thursday morning.
The trooper greeted the terrified youngster, who was carrying nothing but a cell phone.

“They left me alone,” the boy said. “They don’t want to guide me.”
He told the trooper he was 10 years old and that he had traveled alone from his home country of El Salvador.
He also stated that his mother already lives in the U.S. – a bewildering claim made by many unaccompanied minors trafficked across the border.
The child confirmed that a coyote had abandoned him after they entered the U.S. and that he was lost.
The trooper notified U.S. Border Patrol and the child was presumably picked up by agents and taken to a processing facility.
“As many of us are celebrating Thanksgiving with our families & friends. Let’s not forget many children will not get to enjoy the holidays or see their families because they have been placed in a dire situation due to open border conditions, and many more who are trafficked across the southern border are exploited and exposed to a dangerous criminal environment during their journey to the US,” TxDPS spokesman Lt. Chris Olivarez wrote on social media alongside the video.
On Sunday morning, TxDPS discovered a lone toddler among a group of more than 200 illegals who crossed the border into Eagle Pass.

The girl, whom troopers believed was from El Salvador, was carrying a piece of paper with a name and phone number written on it.
She said she was going to reunite with her parents, who were already in the U.S.
