Criminal aliens illegally entering the US could be removed to El Salvador’s mega-prison, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem warned during a trip to the Central American nation.
Touring the country’s renowned super-max Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT) prison on Wednesday, Noem in front of hundreds of incarcerated MS-13 gang members discussed the US’s partnership with El Salvador and threatened illegal aliens currently residing in the US that they could be removed to the jail.
“I want to thank El Salvador and their president for their partnership with the United States of America to bring our terrorists here and to incarcerate them here and to have consequences for the violence that they’ve perpetuated in our communities,” Noem said.
“I also want everybody to know: If you come to our country illegally, this is one of the consequences you could face.”
“First of all, do not come to our country illegally: You will be removed, and you will be prosecuted. But know that this facility is one of the tools in our toolkit that we will use if you commit crimes against the American people,” the DHS Sec. stated.
In a message posted to social media, Noem added, “President Trump and I have a clear message to criminal illegal aliens: LEAVE NOW. If you do not leave, we will hunt you down, arrest you, and you could end up in this El Salvadorian prison.“
The CECOT, home to some of the world’s most dangerous gang members, enabled President Nayib Bukele’s 2022 crackdown on Salvadorian crime, transforming his country from one of the most dangerous to one of the safest in the world.
Noem on Thursday heads to Colombia to meet with high-level Columbian officials as well as President Gustavo Petro, before visiting Mexico on Friday to speak with President Claudia Sheinbaum.
