Ryan Routh, the man who attempted to assassinate Donald Trump on Sunday, made almost 20 donations to Democrat party candidates since 2019, according to Federal Election Commission filings.
Between September 2019 and March 2020, Routh made 19 contributions via the Democrat fundraising platform ActBlue.
The money was earmarked for candidates including Beto O’Rourke, Andrew Yang, Tom Steyer and Elizabeth Warren.
He also donated to Tulsi Gabbard.
The amounts ranged from $1 to $25 and only occurred during the 2020 election primaries.
In social-media posts, Routh claimed to have supported Trump in 2016, only to become disillusioned with him.
“@realDonaldTrump While you were my choice in 2106 [sic], I and the world hoped that president Trump would be different and better than the candidate, but we all were greatly disappointment [sic] and it seems you are getting worse and devolving; are you retarded; I will be glad when you gone,” Routh tweeted in June, 2020.
Routh’s social-media accounts—Twitter, Facebook and Instagram—have now been scrubbed.
Oran Routh, the gunman’s son, spoke to the Daily Mail and said that his father is “not a violent person,” but he does “hate” Trump, like “any reasonable person does.”
Oran Routh said he believed his father’s actions were totally out of character, and said he didn’t even think his father owned a gun.
