UPDATE – Video: Was Biden ‘Fake Driving’ New Ford Truck?
Joe Biden bizarrely joked about committing vehicular homicide Tuesday when he was asked by a reporter about the Israel-Palestine conflict.
Leading up to the exchange, Biden was eager to test drive Ford’s electric F-150 Lightning and was about to slam the gas when a reporter yelled out a last-second zinger.
“Mr. President, can I ask you a quick question on Israel before you drive away since it’s so important?” the reporter inquired.
“No you can’t. Not unless you get in front of the car as I step on it. I’m only teasing,” Biden answered, clearly irritated.
A few reporters chuckled nervously, but as noted by CNN, the awkward wisecrack “largely fell flat.”
During the low-energy presser, Biden also claimed the truck could pick up from 0 to 60 miles per hour in about 4.4 seconds, specs a Ford rep informed him the company had not yet released. (The F-150 Lightning will officially be revealed by Ford on Wednesday.)
“Ah, I should be quiet,” Biden said, stating earlier that “This sucker’s quick.”
According to a White House read-out, Biden on Monday “reiterated his firm support for Israel’s right to defend itself against indiscriminate rocket attacks” during a call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, while at the same time expressing support for a ceasefire.
