After announcing Wednesday he’d be running for president as a Democrat, Young Turks host Cenk Uygur was quickly pointed out as an illegitimate candidate by the community notes of the social media site X.
Uygur posted Thursday, “We’ve already passed 1,000 donors to the campaign. People know I’m going to fight for them. And they know that Biden is going to lose. We have to do something about it right now!”
Underneath that message, X readers added context by noting, “Cenk Uygur was born in Turkey and cannot become the president of the USA according to the US Constitution.”
When Uygur tried arguing he could still run for president because he’s a naturalized citizen, the community notes feature of X again spoiled his dreams.
The note explained the court case Schneider v. Rusk was never “recognized or upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court or any other authoritative legal body in the context of naturalized citizens running for President.”
Popular X account Kanekoa The Great joked that Uygur is promising to defeat “Joe Biden, Community Notes, and the US Constitution.”
Former Republican congressional candidate Robby Starbuck wrote, “You weren’t born here so you aren’t even allowed to run for president yet you’re taking donations under the premise that you are? Sounds like fraud Cenk!”
Comedian and political commentator Mark Dice joked Uygur is running for president to legalize bestiality, a notion the Young Turks anchor previously supported.
Leave it to a Democrat to disregard the U.S. Constitution while aspiring to obtain power.
