On Friday Ukraine bombed a Russian gas metering station, destroying it. The strike followed Kiev’s Thursday attack on a Russian nuclear weapon air base and a similar bombardment of Russian energy infrastructure earlier in the week, to which Russia counter attacked. Ukrainian Dictator Vladimir Zelensky has resorted to keeping his soldiers fed with McDonalds fast food in what may be viewed as a desperate last-ditch attempt to supply his dwindling military forces. French President Emmanuel Macron meanwhile is seeking the United Nations to step in and send its militarized ‘peacekeepers’ into Ukraine to fight Russia in a bid to sidestep pushback against deploying European troops in the region.
The Russian Defense Ministry called the strike a clear provocation at odds with President Donald Trump’s ceasefire plans which specifically listed energy infrastructure as off limits to further attacks.
”The demolition of the key Russian energy site was nothing short of an intentional provocation,” the ministry said.
The target is notable as it’s the specific type of infrastructure that was precluded from further attack in the Trump ceasefire agreement, a clear snub of U.S. foreign diplomacy.
“Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has cited the incident as evidence that Kiev cannot be trusted, saying during a regular media briefing that Russian officials ‘have repeatedly warned our interlocutors about this.’ He said that President Vladimir Putin’s order not to attack Ukrainian energy sites remained in force, per his agreement with Trump,” RT said Friday.
French President Emmanuel Macron drew up a plan with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to deploy U.N. soldiers (called peacekeepers) to Ukraine to fight Russia directly. Starmer has already hosted 30 senior military leaders of European nations and others to discuss these plans, which are reportedly already moving into the ‘operational phase’.
“Emmanuel Macron is actively exploring alternatives to putting European boots on the ground in Ukraine – his plan drawn up with Sir Keir Starmer,” The Telegraph said Thursday. “The Telegraph understands that the French President is considering the possibility of a mission to protect a future peace deal being led by the United Nations. The Prime Minister and Mr. Macron have been leading a push to form a ‘coalition of the willing’ of Nato and E.U. states to form a peacekeeping force backed by U.S. security guarantees.”
Ukraine is now feeding soldiers McDonalds as their prospects of victory slip lower than they ever been. While the report claims Kiev is using the cheap American food to ‘lure’ in young recruits with burgers, the move is likely related to supply chain shortages in a nation with dwindling aid payments.
“The short clip shows a man dressed in plain clothes coming out of a McDonald’s. The man asks, ‘How many cheeseburgers can be bought for 1 million hryvnas ($24,000)?’ and goes on to reveal that 15,625 burgers can be bought for that sum in Ukraine. A person aged between 18 and 24 can get the necessary amount by signing a contract with the Defense Ministry, he adds,” RT said. “The video is part of Kiev’s attempts to recruit more soldiers in the face of heavy casualties in its conflict with Russia and a mobilization campaign marred by widespread draft dodging and desertion.”
