FARMERS BRANCH, TX – Dozens of protestors chanting “Jose Cruz” forced a chaotic end to the city council meeting in Farmers Branch Tuesday evening, and ended with them chasing after the mayor as he got into a vehicle and drove away.

The protest outside Farmers Branch City Hall was supposed to begin at 6 p.m. At that time, there was only one person holding a sign calling for justice. Within 30 minutes, buses had arrived with dozens more protestors. By the end, more than 200 calling for justice for 16-year-old Jose Cruz had gathered.

Jose Cruz is the 16-year-old teen who was shot and killed by off-duty Farmers Branch police Officer Ken Johnson back in March in Addison.

The incident happened more than two months ago when police say Cruz and a friend, Edgar Rodriguez, were caught stealing from cars in an apartment parking lot. Off-duty from his job as an officer, Johnson confronted them, chased them, and then shot into their car, fatally wounding Cruz. Johnson is now charged with murder and aggravated assault.
