Now that Ted Cruz is out of the presidential race, establishment donors are flocking to Hillary Clinton.
One of the donors, Renaissance Technologies, spent over $13 million on Cruz’s campaign and is now pouring millions into Clinton’s coffers.
“Her campaign is signaling to Republican donors that… Hillary ‘represents your values better than Trump,’” progressive outlet Common Dreams reported. “This is a striking admission — one that comes in the midst of an ongoing contest with an opponent, Vt. Sen. Bernie Sanders, who has questioned Clinton's commitment to progressive causes and has criticized her for caving under the temptations of corporate cash.”
Expect Clinton to shift to a more moderate platform to attract GOP donors as she focuses her attention away from Bernie Sanders and onto Donald Trump.
“A number of deep-pocketed elite have given up trying to buy off Republican politicians in order to support Ms. Clinton, the only establishment-friendly candidate of either party remaining in the race,” the Observer reported. “In response, the Clinton campaign has assembled a group dubbed ‘Republicans for Hillary’ to reach wealthy GOP donors.”
In other words, there’s no practical difference between establishment Republicans and Democrats.
“The argument that the two parties should represent opposed ideals and policies, one, perhaps, of the Right and the other of the Left, is a foolish idea acceptable only to the doctrinaire and academic thinkers,” establishment insider Carroll Quigley once advocated. “Instead, the two parties should be almost identical, so that the American people can ‘throw the rascals out’ at any election without leading to any profound or extreme shifts in policy.”
