A statement issued by the Saudi Arabia embassy in Pakistan refuted claims of funding ‘extremist mindset in Pakistan through its financial support for religious seminaries’.

The statement said that a section of media was promoting a false impression that Saudi Arabia was funding the ‘extremist mindset,’ adding that if any seminary or charity organisation requests for a financial aid from Saudi Arabia, the Saudi embassy refers the matter to the Pakistani government for examination of the applicant.

“When the ministry of foreign affairs informs the embassy in writing that the financial assistance is in the interest of public welfare, the assistance is provided to the applicant,” read the statement, adding that the assistance is ‘beyond any sectarian considerations.’

The statement further added the Saudi Kingdom is ‘very conscious’ that its financial assistance for philanthropic goals does not fall into the hands of extremists.
