A controversial high school monument that features a Biblical scripture on it will have to be modified to comply with state and federal laws.

Madison High School football players had adopted the practice of touching the monument that was donated when they headed out to the football field, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. The monument features two Bible verses, including Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ which strengthen me,” and Romans 8:31, “If God be for us who can be against us?”

That will now change since the Madison County school board voted Tuesday night in favor of having the scriptures either removed or covered on the monument that is in front of the football field.
