At Garden Oaks Montessori School, policy dictates that teachers cannot say “good morning, boys and girls” because those words don’t convey a “sense of equality and togetherness.” Instead, the staff uses broader “gender inclusive” language, such as “good morning, class” or “good morning, everyone.”
According to a CNN report, Garden Oaks Montessori staff has been trained to support children who deviate from gender norms, “whether it’s a boy in girls’ clothes or a child who was born a girl and wants to be called a boy.”
School Principal Lindsey Pollock says, “Diversity is a good thing. We all benefit from the unique characteristics that we all have.”
Pollock says the schools’ goal is to “build a culture of inclusivity and understanding and a mindset of being welcoming to everyone.”
