What Claudio Borgi, North League’s economic head, said in a radio interview was a bombshell. “I’m truly convinced that Italy would solve most of its problems if it had its own currency”, he said.
“If Italy starts talking about leaving the Euro, it will be the death of the EU.”
His remarks were enough to worry the markets and increase the interest of Italian bonds. Borgi is seen as an expert; he’s the lower house budget committee head and has a reputation of being an anti-euro economist. His appointment alone had caused the market to scuffle back in June.
