GOP nominee Donald Trump slammed his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton in a speech Monday, saying that she has no idea how grass roots businesses grow and prosper, and that she is carrying out “petty” attacks on him to distract voters from her massively corrupt activity.
“While my opponent focuses on small petty things, we are discussing the vital issues facing our country and our people,” Trump told supporters in Loveland, Colo.
“We are going to talk borders. We are going to talk trade, jobs and refugees. We are going to talk about crime and failing schools and how to turn our country around.” Trump added.
The GOP nominee slammed Clinton as grossly inexperienced when it comes to growing a business, an activity many Americans are engaged in.
“People like my opponent, Crooked Hillary Clinton, whose only method of making money is by selling government favors and granting access to special interests, know nothing about how businesses succeed and grow,” Trump exclaimed.
“Hillary can’t discuss the issues because she’s one of the ones who helped create the problems in the first place.” he added, referring to the economic turmoil many Americans are facing.
“All she can accuse the country of … is racism and attack Trump voters and Bernie voters,” Trump told the massive audience.
“She’ll do everything she can to distract from the issues and her enormous corruption and criminal conduct.” he added.
During the speech, Trump also touched on the “petty” issue of his tax returns, admitting that he “legally used the tax laws to [his] benefit,” then telling the Colorado crowd, “I work for you now. I’m not working for Trump.”
Hilary Clinton herself, meanwhile, reappeared after days of inactivity.
In a speech in Ohio, Clinton focused on Trump’s taxes, following leaks of his financial records by the New York Times.
“What kind of a genius loses a billion dollars in the first place?” Clinton said, referring to the revelation that Trump declared a cost of over a billion dollars in the mid 90’s as a way of legally avoiding massive federal income tax payments.
“It doesn’t look like he paid a dime of federal income tax for almost two decades.” Clinton claimed.
“Now while millions of American families, including mine and yours, were working hard, paying our fair share, it seems he was contributing nothing to our nation,” she added, saying “Trump was taking from America with both hands and leaving the rest of us with the bill.”
Hillary then turned to Wall Street, saying that “It is outrageous that eight years after a cowboy culture on Wall Street wrecked our economy, we’re still seeing thousands of bankers playing fast and loose with the law.”
Clinton detractors will point to the fact that Hillary protected Wall Street Bankers while she was a New York Senator by not going after them when everyone else was. Bill Clinton massively deregulated Wall Street, and Hillary has regularly taken massive donations and speaking fees from large financial institutions.
The Trump campaign responded to Clinton’s speech with strong words.
“After taking nearly a month away from Ohio, Hillary Clinton’s campaign hurriedly announced a return in the month of October to try to shift the developing media narrative that she’s writing off this key battleground state,” said the campaign’s Ohio spokesman, Seth Unger.
“The problem for Hillary in Ohio is that she is a corrupt, incompetent Washington insider who has been promising the same failed solutions for 30 years, and Mr. Trump is an agent for change. There is remarkably little enthusiasm for Hillary among Democrats, independents, millenials, African American voters, and working families in ex-urban counties, and now her campaign is scrambling last-minute to find a region of Ohio where more than a couple hundred people will show up.” Unger concluded.
