Turkey has called for a special meeting of Nato ambassadors over the escalating violence in the country.

The request comes as Ankara widened its security operation against militants with two Turkish soldiers being killed and four others wounded by a roadside bomb near Lice in the south-east of the country.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which was announced on Sunday, but it occurred in a region where members of the Kurdistan Workers party (PKK) have recently carried out operations against Turkish troops. It came less than 24 hours after Turkish warplanes conducted air strikes against PKK bases in northern Iraq.
