Prosecutions have reached an all-time low despite crime soaring to a new record high, official Government figures reveal.
The number of people dealt with by the criminal justice system in England and Wales fell by 7 percent in the latest year while recorded crime shot up by 11 percent to 5.5 million.
The Victims’ Commissioner warned that unless the trend is reversed people will “simply give up” reporting crimes, creating “a real disconnect” between the public and law enforcers.
