A nearly 20 minute viral video highlighting the crime and radicalization sweeping Europe amidst the ongoing Migrant crisis has spurred widespread censorship by video giant YouTube.
Entitled “With Open Gates: The forced collective suicide of European nations,” the popular cinematic-style video received more than 1.2 million views after being uploaded Monday before getting hit with alleged copyright claims by “[Merlin] IDOL” – a company regularly accused of falsely targeting online content.
“This video will not be online long, download and mirror it while you can,” the uploader, “Death of Nations,” predicted in the video’s description.
A quick glance across YouTube reveals that more than 21 mirrors of the video, many of which are only minutes old, have automatically been hit with other copyright claims as well.
Despite what appears to be obvious attempts to limit the video’s reach, other popular video sharing sites such as Live Leak have thus far carried the video without issue.
While the bizarrely focused campaign to stop the video could be linked to legitimate means, European governments have already been caught attempting to censor content critical of mass migration policies.
Last September at the United Nations development summit, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg was caught on a hot mic with German Chancellor Angela Merkel discussing the censorship of posts opposed to the government’s stance.
On the ground in Germany, police were even found to be covering up information regarding a substantial number of rapes in and around migrant camps so as not to “legitimize critics of mass migration.”
The editor in chief of top German broadcaster ZDF also refused to report on cases of rape by migrants because it would allegedly “inflame the situation and spread the bad mood.”
Such tactics only serve to embolden those taking advantage of the crisis for financial gain while legitimate refugees fleeing war struggle to receive much needed resources.
