<p>The presidential convoy included three helicopters, two of which &#8211; all carrying government ministers and officials &#8211; managed to reach their destination safely.</p>



<p>The exact status of the presidential helicopter and those on board was not immediately clear, the media outlet notes, adding that rescue teams from the Red Crescent Society of Iran, the military and the law enforcement have been sent in.</p>

Helicopter Carrying Iranian President, Foreign Minister Crashes – Reports


<p><strong>Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico remains in serious condition after surviving an assassination attempt, his deputy Robert Kalinak said on Saturday. </strong></p>



<p>Fico was attacked on Wednesday in the central Slovak city of Handlova. When he approached a group of spectators, one person pulled out a handgun and shot the politician several&nbsp;times at close range. Fico was rushed to the hospital, and the assailant was detained on the spot.&nbsp;</p><div class="z0IX7lat"><div id="fullAd"></div></div>



<p>Kalinak, who also serves as defense minister, spoke to the news channel TA3 outside the Roosevelt Hospital in Banska Bystrica, where Fico is being treated. He remained cautiously optimistic about the prime minister’s recovery.&nbsp;</p>



<p><em>“He is in stable condition, but the four gunshot wounds have caused extensive injuries,”</em> Kalinak said. He added that Fico had undergone additional surgery, and that there still could be complications. <em>“In any case, his condition is very serious.”</em></p>

<p>Police have identified the suspect as a 71-year-old former security guard named Juraj Cintula. He was placed in pre-detention on Saturday.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Although the suspect’s exact motives remain unclear, the government believes the attack was politically motivated. Many leading politicians have linked the assassination attempt to&nbsp;<em>“hateful rhetoric”</em>&nbsp;and the politically charged climate in the country.</p>

<p><strong>Ukraine’s president has claimed Kiev’s forces would be more successful on the battlefield if they were not banned from using Western-supplied weapons to hit targets in Russia.</strong></p>



<p>Russia’s ability to strike Ukraine from its own soil is giving Moscow the edge in the conflict, Vladimir Zelensky said during an interview with AFP news agency on Friday.</p><div class="NvjJ9c0G"><div id="fullAd"></div></div>

<p>However, on Thursday Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh clarified that Washington’s position that Kiev should not target Russia with US-supplied weapons remains unchanged. <p>Earlier this month, UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron insisted Ukraine has the&nbsp;<em>“right”</em>&nbsp;to use UK-supplied weapons to strike targets deep inside Russia, if it decides to do so. Moscow reacted to the statement by warning that if such an attack were to take place it could target British military facilities&nbsp;<em>“on the territory of Ukraine and beyond”</em>&nbsp;in response.</p>



<p>The New York Times and Wall Street Journal reported on Friday that Kiev has urged Washington to provide intelligence on targets on Russian soil amid setbacks in Donbass and Kharkov Region. According to the NYT, US officials are currently reviewing those requests, despite previously turning them down.</p>



<p>Zelensky said Kiev now finds itself in a&nbsp;<em>“nonsensical situation”</em>&nbsp;due to the stance of the West, which&nbsp;<em>“is afraid that Russia will lose the war. And it does not want Ukraine to lose it.”</em></p><div class="nk2G1V1e"><div id="ifwAd"></div></div>



<p><em>“Ukraine’s final victory will lead to Russia’s defeat. And the final victory of Russia will lead to Ukraine’s defeat,”</em>&nbsp;he added.</p>



<p>The Ukrainian authorities&nbsp;<em>“want the war to end with a fair peace for us. Of course, the West wants the war to end. Period. As soon as possible. And, for them, this is a fair peace,”</em>&nbsp;the president stated.</p>



<p>On Friday, Russia President Vladimir Putin reiterated that Moscow <em>“never rejected negotiations unlike the Ukrainian side,”</em> referring to a 2022 decree by Zelensky, which officially forbade him from talks with his Russian counterpart.</p>



<p>However, Putin stressed that Russia will not yield to <em>“ultimatums”</em> from Kiev and its Western backers as they try to gain though diplomacy what they have failed to gain on the battlefield.</p>

<p>As well as these state-level bans, there are regulations at the federal and state level preventing manufacturers of lab-grown meat from calling their products “meat” and requiring them to label their products as “lab-grown.”</p>



<p>Despite its status as an official “food of the future,” lab-grown meat has been dogged by persistent scandals and suggestions that the product will fail to live up to its hype, may not be scalable and could even be significantly worse for the environment than the animal products it is intended to replace.</p><div class="gIfxPgVi"><div id="ifwAd"></div></div>

<p>In response to news of the Alabama bill passing into law, Upside Foods, one of just two companies to received FDA and USDA approval to sell lab-grown meat in the US, started a change.org petition to urge consumers to tell politicians to “stop policing” the foods they eat.</p>



<p>“Legislation that bans cultivated meat is a reckless move that ignores food safety experts and science, stifles consumer choice, and hinders American innovation,” <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/florida-alabama-lab-grown-mean-ban-2024/">said Sean Edgett</a>, chief legal officer of Upside Foods, in a statement.</p>



<p>“Major meat companies have invested in cultivated meat to enhance supply chain resilience and meet rising global demand for meat. We should be embracing innovation for a better food future.”</p>

Lab-Grown Meat Banned in Second State: Alabama Follows Florida’s Lead


<p><strong>The European Commission has hit out against plans by the new Dutch coalition government to opt out of the EU migration pact.</strong></p>



<p><a href="https://rmx.news/article/wilders-promises-strictest-asylum-policy-ever-from-dutch-right-wing-government-including-push-for-eu-opt-out/">Speaking in The Hague on Thursday</a>, Party for Freedom (PVV) leader Geert Wilders, the largest party in the Dutch parliament, announced the new right-wing administration agreed upon by four coalition partners will seek to release the country from the grip of Brussels on matters relating to asylum and migration.</p><div class="jLGuwZhs"><div id="fullAd"></div></div>



<p>“A lot is going to change. There will be an asylum crisis law. There will be border controls. There will be a ban on the priority of social housing for status holders,” Wilders told the Dutch press.</p>



<p>He then hinted at Dutch opposition to the EU’s migration pact and vowed to “fight for an opt-out on asylum in the European Union.”</p>

<p>It took a matter of hours, however, for the European Commission to put a dampening on the plans, signaling its intent to ensure all member states play by the new rules.</p>



<p>“We have a new pact on migration and asylum, which has been voted upon and confirmed and therefore has to be applied,” EU Commission spokesman Eric Mamer said at a press briefing in Brussels.</p>



<p>“This legislation will be applied and the commission will play its role in making sure it is,” he added.</p><div class="NCQysjl2"><div id="ifwAd"></div></div>



<p>The outgoing liberal administration in the Netherlands voted for the asylum pact adopted by the European Council on Tuesday by way of qualified majority voting.&nbsp;<a href="https://rmx.news/article/it-is-harmful-and-unreasonable-hungary-vows-to-defy-brussels-on-migrant-quotas-after-european-council-adopts-controversial-migration-pact/">Only Hungary and Poland opposed the pact in full</a>, while Czechia, Austria, and Slovakia voted against particular regulations within the legislation.</p>



<p>Under the new scheme, EU member states will be required to accommodate a set number of migrants with the quota set each year by Brussels. Failure to comply with the demands will see member states fined €20,000 for every individual they refuse.</p>



<p>Wilders is a longstanding critic of Western Europe’s liberal approach to mass immigration and has campaigned for tougher border controls for decades. With public opinion across the Netherlands now aligning with his party’s values and the electorate propelling the PVV into power, he remains intent on delivering what he described as the “strictest-ever asylum policy” in the Netherlands.</p>



<p>The new Dutch coalition may find allies in the Visegrád nations, all of whom have expressed at least some opposition to the plans.</p>



<p>After its adoption, Hungarian Finance Minister Mihály Varga told journalists during a visit to the de facto EU capital that&nbsp;<a href="https://rmx.news/article/it-is-harmful-and-unreasonable-hungary-vows-to-defy-brussels-on-migrant-quotas-after-european-council-adopts-controversial-migration-pact/">Budapest would not play ball</a>.</p>



<p>“Hungary does not accept the imposition of migrant quotas,” Varga said.</p>



<p>“It is particularly harmful and unreasonable that, based on the provisions of the new EU asylum package, a penalty of €20,000 per migrant must be paid by those countries not willing to accept migrants to their territory according to the mandatory quota.”</p>



<p>The new left-liberal government in Poland also reiterated its intention to refuse migrant quotas, with Prime Minister Donald Tusk telling journalists on Tuesday that Poland would “be a beneficiary of the migration pact.”</p>



<p>“We will not pay for anything, we will not have to accept any migrants from other countries. The EU will not impose any migrant quotas on us,” he said.</p>



<p>However, conservatives in Poland are skeptical of Tusk’s true intentions, believing him to be paying lip service with his opposition and thinking he will eventually fall in line.</p>

Earlier this month, the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security issued a similar advisory regarding potential security risks during June, the month of Pride celebrations.</strong></p>



<p>Having started out back in 1970 in the US as marches for gay rights, Pride month celebrations have since spread to many other countries, mostly European ones. Nowadays, such events promoting same-sex relations enjoy varying degrees of government support in most Western nations. However, in Muslim countries, in Russia and in other states professing to espouse conservative and religious values, such gatherings are banned under local laws.</p><div class="Z9oM18Hk"><div id="fullAd"></div></div>



<p>In an advisory released on Friday, Washington urged&nbsp;<em>“U.S. citizens overseas to exercise increased caution”</em>&nbsp;in light of the&nbsp;<em>“potential for terrorist attacks, demonstrations, or violent actions against U.S. citizens and interests.”</em>&nbsp;According to the document, foreign terrorist organizations could target&nbsp;<em>“LGBTQI+ persons and events.”</em></p>



<p>American nationals should be particularly alert at <em>“pride celebrations and venues frequented by LGBTQI+ persons”</em> as well as tourist attractions.</p>

<p>The release pointed out that LGBTQ-themed events have in the past been targeted by terrorists, including the deadly mass shooting at Pulse gay club in Florida in June 2016. 29-year-old Omar Mateen, who had sworn allegiance to the Islamic State terrorist organization, mowed down 49 revelers, also leaving 53 wounded.</p>



<p>The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security also noted that Austrian authorities detained three suspected Islamic State sympathizers in Vienna last June who were suspected to have been planning an attack on a Pride event there.</p>

<p><strong>A significant link between use of e-cigarettes and earlier onset of asthma has been discovered in US adults, according to <a href="https://dx.doi.org/10.1001/jamanetworkopen.2024.10740">a new study</a> published in the journal <em>JAMA Network Open</em>.</strong></p>

Vaping Linked to Earlier Onset of Asthma: New Study


<p><strong>The Massachusetts Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities has been housing immigrant families with children in facilities that either employ or house sex offenders, according to <a href="https://www.bostonglobe.com/2024/05/17/metro/sex-offenders-migrant-families-investigation/">an investigation by <em>The Boston Globe</em></a>.</strong></p>



<p>Sex offenders convicted of a range of crimes from child rape to possession of child pornography were housed or working in five hotels that are used to house illegal immigrants and their families, including children.</p><div class="XTbZq8Yr"><div id="fullAd"></div></div>



<p>One of the hotels includes the Comfort Inn in Rockland, where a 26-year-old man allegedly raped a 15-year-old girl, in March. Both were Haitian immigrants.</p>



<p>At the time of the rape, Massachusetts governor Maura Healey reassured the public that all migrants were being screened for criminal records.</p>

<p><em>The Globe</em> found no evidence that any of the residents of the hotels were told they were sharing their new home with sex offenders.</p>



<p>For example, <em>The Globe</em> noted that there was no public information on display at the Northborough Econo Lodge “alerting guests to the presence of a Level 3 sex offender who was convicted in 1990 in Houston of rape of a child with force.”</p>

Illegal Immigrant Children Being Housed with Sex Offenders in Massachusetts


<p><strong>French researchers have detected the herbicide glyphosate in human semen for the first time, in concentrations that are four times higher than in the blood. Glyphosate, the active ingredient in Bayer’s Roundup product, has been linked to a wide variety of negative health effects, including cancer and reproductive toxicity.</strong></p>



<p>Details of the worrying discovery are reported in <a href="https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S014765132400486X?via%3Dihub">a study</a> in the journal <em>Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety</em>.</p><div class="VYugeqo9"><div id="fullAd"></div></div>



<p>The researchers looked at samples of seminal fluid and blood from 128 male partners of infertile couples who were otherwise without any chronic illnesses or physical abnormalities. The men were aged 26-57 years.</p>



<p>Out of the 128 men sampled, 73 had levels of glyphosate in their blood and semen that were above the lower limit of quantification. Glyphosate levels in semen were found to be nearly four times higher than in blood.</p>

<p>Of those 73 patients who had detectable levels of glyphosate in their samples, blood and sperm concentrations of the chemical were not significantly different between patients living in the city and countryside, nor did they differ much between patients eating organic and non organic food. However, smokers had blood and seminal plasma concentrations twice as high as non-smokers, and farm workers had higher levels than those working in service-sector and transport jobs. <p>Users of glyphosate and people exposed to the chemical have filed massive class-action lawsuits against its manufacturer, Bayer, which bought Monsanto in 2016. As at March 2024, nearly 100,000 lawsuits filed against Monsanto and Bayer <a href="https://www.lawsuit-information-center.com/roundup-lawsuit.html">have been settled</a> for approximately $11 billion. There are still as many as 54,000 Roundup lawsuits active at this time.</p>

Glyphosate Detected in Human Semen for the First Time at 4x Higher Concentrations than in the Blood


<p><strong>Wearing face coverings did nothing to reduce the risk of infection by the Omicron variant of COVID, according to <a href="https://research-portal.uea.ac.uk/en/publications/changing-risk-factors-for-developing-sars-cov-2-infection-from-de">a new study</a> from the University of East Anglia.</strong></p>



<p>The researchers used data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) COVID survey in England which estimated how many people had infections.</p><div class="jI7bm53S"><div id="fullAd"></div></div>



<p>From November 2021 to May 2022, the ONS also asked individuals about their circumstances and habits—including mask-wearing, work habits and travel—to see if those factors could be linked to risk of positivity.</p>



<p>By analysing this data, the researchers found that wearing face coverings did not reduce the risk of infection by the Omicron variant at all.</p>

<p>The value of wearing masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19 has been a source of some controversy, not least of all because of initial warnings during the pandemic from experts and government officials not to wear them.</p><div class="xmsx8aJs"><div id="ifwAd"></div></div>



<p>A number of scientific studies have claimed masking reduced transmission and infection during the pandemic, but others have claimed it did not. <p>It’s worth noting that the data used for the new study were survey data which assume the truthfulness and accuracy of the participants’ own recollections. There is no way to verify whether the survey respondents did wear masks in exactly the manner they reported.</p>

Wearing Face Masks Did Nothing To Reduce Risk of Infection with COVID Omicron Variant: New Study


<p><strong>Bill Maher defended Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker on his show on Friday night, after remarks made by the sports star at a college graduation landed him in hot water with liberals.</strong></p>



<p>At Benedictine College last weekend, Butker told graduands and especially female graduands that, for many of them, getting married and starting a family would be the most exciting and fulfilling thing they would go on to do.</p><div class="umu3TcwG"><div id="fullAd"></div></div>

<p>He also spoke negatively about Pride month and abortions.</p>



<p>The backlash was immediate after video of the speech found its way to social media.
