Infowars founder Alex Jones and other controversial figures may be allowed back on Twitter following Elon Musk’s new poll asking whether banned accounts should be reinstated.
The 24-hour poll, asking if accounts that have not broken the law or spammed should be reinstated, was voted on by over 3 million Twitter users Wednesday, with 72% saying they should be reinstated.
“Amnesty begins next week. Vox Populi, Vox Dei,” Musk announced agreeing with the results.
Despite admitting last week he had a personal problem with Alex Jones, Musk’s declaration prompted many to speculate that Jones’ account and others – just like rapper Kanye West’s and former President Donald Trump’s accounts – could be revived on the platform.
The phrasing of Musk’s question certainly gives the impression Jones may be brought back; after all, he was never convicted of a crime and has unconstitutionally been found liable by default in his two recent Sandy Hook defamation cases.
Following Musk’s denial of Jones’ reinstatement, many prominent Twitter users questioned how Jones’ ban squared with the Twitter CEO’s claims he would bring free speech back to the platform.
Alex Jones 20 years ago in 2002. He has said some crazy shit but this video was spot on. If the propaganda media and deep state stenographers are allowed on Twitter then Alex Jones should have his account reinstated. pic.twitter.com/l1ZJDPGpB5

Alex Jones has apologised publicly several times over the years for what he said about Sandy Hook.
Many public figures have told more damaging lies, and more importantly, DONE objectively worse things.
Why is he unforgivable whilst others are forgiven, even without apology?

Alex Jones is the litmus test.
If you believe any person is too despicable to speak, you don’t actually believe in free speech. End of story.

I’m not defending Alex Jones. What he said about Sandy Hook was appalling. He’s dealing with the consequences in the Courts. But he has the right to free speech. That’s what I’m defending. We have mass murderers on Twitter, US Presidents who killed thousands of children. Get real

Alex Jones should have just posted child abuse imagery on Twitter- apparently that is less bannable than being sued in a case having nothing to do with the site.

Reinstate Alex Jones on Twitter?

In the coming days, everyone will see whether Musk lives up to his promise to make Twitter a bastion of free speech, or whether he cowers to the likes of the Anti-Defamation League and other enemies of freedom.
