Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the nephew of President John F. Kennedy, officially announced his bid for the 2024 United States presidential race in Boston, Massachusetts, Wednesday, becoming the second prospective Democrat to enter the race.
Kennedy Jr., 69, stands out in the race in that he’s openly expressed concerns over vaccines. As the founder of the nonprofit organization Children’s Health Defense, he’s been a prominent figure in the movement for vaccine safety and raising awareness about serious adverse reactions to vaccines.
Kennedy Jr. had filed a statement of candidacy with the Federal Election Commission in April.
Despite just formally launching his campaign, a recent USA Today/Suffolk University poll found 14% of President Joe Biden’s supporters already back Kennedy Jr.
Kennedy Jr. joins the Democrat race alongside spiritual author Marianne Williamson, while Joe Biden, the current Democrat president, is widely presumed to run for re-election but has not yet made an official announcement.
