Americans will begin receiving the first round of COVID relief payments through direct deposit tonight, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin announced Tuesday.
The $600 payments will come through direct deposit in some people’s accounts, and others will receive physical checks that will be mailed out Wednesday, Mnuchin tweeted.
“Later this week, you can check the status of your payment at IRS.gov/GetMyPayment,” he added.
The announcement comes as Congress is negotiating to increase the stimulus payments to $2,000, which was passed in the House but blocked in the Senate by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
According to MarketWatch, the dispersal process will take about two months to complete.
