Once again following the lead of Florida, Texas Gov. Abbott signed an executive order banning “government-mandated” vaccine passports in Texas.
That said, the order might not have any teeth if major corporations deny people goods and services for not having a privately-developed vaccine passport.
“Texans shouldn’t be required to show proof of vaccination & reveal private health information just to go about their daily lives,” he tweeted. “I issued an Executive Order that prohibits government-mandated vaccine passports in Texas.”
The Florida order signed by Gov. Desantis last week went much further by banning businesses in Flroida from “requiring patrons or customers to provide any documentation certifying COVID-19 vaccination or post-transmission recovery to gain access to, entry upon, or service from the business.”
In contrast, Abbott merely banned “government-mandated” passports, giving corporations a major loophole as the Biden passport plan would be conducted primarily through the private sector.
“Only private businesses that received government money are prevented from requiring vaccine passports, meaning it would be almost impossible for the average citizen to know if a business that requires a vaccine passport is in compliance with the executive order or not,”reported National File. “Nursing homes and elder care facilities are exempt regardless of their public or private status.”
