The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms is asking scorned lovers to snitch on their gun-dealing exes.
The federal bureau issued the bizarre request Monday as a Valentine’s Day message, describing the act of ratting on a former lover and possibly sending an ATF hit squad to their door as “fun.”
“Valentine’s Day can still be fun even if you broke up,” the BATF wrote in a tweet. “Do you have information about a former (or current) partner involved in illegal gun activity? Let us know, and we will make sure it’s a Valentine’s Day to remember!”

The agency’s playful request did not go over well on social media, where some called attention to the ATF’s and “ex” President Barack Obama’s infamous gun-walking scheme Operation Fast & Furious, which funneled firearms to Mexican gun cartels and ultimately led to the death of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.
I do. Ex president, actually. His name was Barack Obama. Ran a bunch of illegal guns to the Mexican cartels. That what you’re looking for? Or you just worried about hunting down some poor guy with a sawed off? https://t.co/sc7fHJ5Cwb

Oh, look. The ATF is giving us a PERFECT example of what’s wrong with red flag laws.
Nothing says Happy Valentines Day like having an ex SWATed just because you can’t stand them. pic.twitter.com/0Fumfn44yF

Others highlighted the ATF’s disgraceful reputation for conducting no-knock raids that have often led to dogs being shot for attempting to protect their owners.
the ATF wants you to snitch on your ex so they can bust down their door and shoot their dog as a “valentine’s day surprise”
these people are sick

Still others underscored the ATF’s key role in the massacre of over 70 civilians, including women and children, at the Davidian compound in Waco.

Violets are Blue,
You burned men, women, and the children too! https://t.co/iZ6n7yoK4s pic.twitter.com/wpDhIf4UVV— Ace (@Ace_Archist) February 14, 2022
I know this person that massacred 70 people in Waco and ran illegal guns to Mexican drug cartels that were used to kill a US border patrol agent.
Her name is the ATF. https://t.co/Ef1hyOzu0C

Two weeks after Valentine’s Day in 1993 the ATF went on a rampage against US citizens in Waco. They caused the deaths of 76 people, including 25 children and 2 pregnant women.

The ATF was also asked to look into an illegal gun purchase made by President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, who reportedly lied and answered “no” on a federal Firearms Transaction Record to a question about using or being addicted to controlled substances.
He’s not a former or current partner, but here’s a tip regarding an illegal gun purchase.

The agency did not issue a response to the overwhelming criticism as of writing.
