On Monday the Department of Justice released court documents which revealed text messages between the second attempted assassin of President Donald Trump, Ryan Wesley Routh and an alleged human trafficker in Mexico about smuggling Afghans into the U.S.
The discussions with the alleged human trafficker, referred to as “Ramiro”, took place in February 2024. The DOJ included these text messages the court filing while responding to Routh’s motion to suppress evidence about his alleged human smuggling activities.
While Routh’s attorney claims the communications with “Ramiro” have nothing to do with the attempted assassination of the President, the DOJ filing said that they are direct evidence of Routh’s attempt to assassinate the President and become a fugitive of justice.
While they reveal criminal alien smuggling, the DOJ does not intend to prosecute Routh for that, rather, the messages have been included to demonstrate his alleged plan to flee the country after assassinating the President.
“NEW: Last night, the DOJ released texts between Ryan Routh and the Mexican human smuggler about smuggling Afghans into the U.S. These texts show that the smuggler was going to drop the Afghans off at the border and have them apply for asylum. They even discussed the possibility of flying them straight into the country! However, the Mexican wanted $1800 apiece for the job, which Routh said he couldn’t pay. It doesn’t look like the deal was completed — but I’m not sure about that,” Ken Silva, the writer who reported the story on Headline USA, said in a social media post Tuesday.

Trump’s attempted assassin asked Ramiro to take the group of Afghans, a man and four female family members to the border near Eagle Pass, Texas. The Afghans would then apply for asylum so as to be admitted into the country via President Joe Biden’s broken borders system.
“Routh’s defense attorneys have argued that they’re OK with the DOJ presenting evidence of their client’s communications with Ramiro from last September—but not from earlier that year. It’s unclear when Judge Aileen Cannon will rule on the matter. The parties are set to meet for a status conference on May 14,” Headline USA said. “Routh’s trial is set for September.”
Routh worked with U.S. intelligence agencies to expand the American Foreign Legion in Ukraine and his 300-page manifesto called for nuclear war. Former U.S. Department of State official Mike Benz said that there is a 95 percent chance Routh was working for the Biden administration. Routh was described by a U.S. medic who volunteered in Ukraine as a “ticking time bomb” but as a “crusader for causes large and small” by the New York Times. Trump has recently promised to release the files on his two attempted assassins.
He is facing life in prison or the death penalty.
