Homeless people camped outside of City Hall in Austin say they’re ready to wage violence against police if they’re forced to leave town because they “have nothing to lose.”
In the video, a pair of homeless people who admit they’re not from Austin brag about carrying several knives which they suggest they’ll use against cops if need be.
“I have 1, 2, 3, 4 knives on me just on myself. She’s got a machete and a pocket knife,” a man says, adding, “If it’s a war they want, it’s a war they’re gonna get.”
The report comes as Austin residents last week voted in favor of Prop B (57% to 43%) calling to reinstate the public camping ban which allowed homeless to camp pretty much anywhere.
Now homeless people have set up camp outside of city hall and are hoping the Democrat city officials who originally reversed the ban will protect them on May 11, when it goes back into effect.
According to Austin interim Police chief Joseph Chacon, the department will be looking at relocating homeless by starting with “education and outreach, focusing first on those persons in situations that present higher health and safety risks.”
“Collectively, our outreach efforts will be ongoing as we continue to assess encampment sites and coordinate with our service providers,” Chacon said in a statement to KVUE.
However, as indicated in the video some homeless people are under the impression enforcement efforts will boil over into full-on altercations that could require violence on their part.
