Former Vice President Joe Biden says his son Hunter, who’s currently under federal investigation for tax fraud, is the “smartest man” he knows.
The statement came during an appearance on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where Biden was asked if he planned to work across the aisle with GOP members who’ve used his son’s controversies against him.
“We have great confidence in our son. I’m not concerned about any accusations that have been made against him – it used to get to me,” Biden responded.
“I think it’s kind of foul play but — look it is what it is. And ah, he’s a grown man, he is the smartest man I know, I mean from a pure intellectual capacity. And as long as he’s good, we’re good.”
Last week, Hunter revealed via his father’s campaign he’s been under federal investigation for tax fraud.
Hunter was also problematic for his father during the run-up to the 2020 election, as the contents of a laptop belonging to him showed evidence of illegal overseas business dealings and illicit drug use.
