HBO late night host Bill Maher blasted the term “equity” as a “kind of an example of the practice we do now of changing language to change the way people think,” warning the term is now in a lot of pieces of legislation.
Maher noted on his Friday show “Real Time” that the left’s incessant push to include the word “equity” in many new laws is indicative of their effort to control the way people think.
“I’ve never heard equity…a lot before a few years ago. And now, I think it sounds like equality, but it seems to be a very different thing. And it’s in a lot of federal legislation now, equity,” Maher pointed out.
“Equity itself is kind of an example of the practice we do now of changing language to change the way people think. Which is something that’s gone on for a long time.”
Maher likened the left’s effort to shift from “equality” to “equity” as an Orwellian practice meant to impose social control.
“Certainly, George Orwell wrote about that, and it’s gone on in many countries. And it seems to be going on here more than it used to in this country. I mean, we just mentioned BIPOC, which is a term I hadn’t heard,” he said, referring to the left’s term for “black, indigenous, and people of color.”
Maher also noted that other terms have been used to shift the way people think, such as “pro-life” and “death tax.”
