Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was rushed to the hospital Friday in Luxembourg after suffering an injury, prompting her to cancel further engagements.
Pelosi, 84, was traveling with the Congressional Member Delegation (CODEL) when the incident took place.
“While traveling with a bipartisan Congressional delegation in Luxembourg to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi sustained an injury during an official engagement and was admitted to the hospital for evaluation,” spokesperson Ian Krager stated.
“She continues to work and regrets that she is unable to attend the remainder of the CODEL engagements to honor the courage of our servicemembers during one of the greatest acts of American heroism in our nation’s history.”
While the cause and extent of the top Democrat’s injury remain unclear, The Daily Mail reports via a source she was injured when “she fell down some stairs during the visit, but her injuries are not serious.”
Human Events editor noted from DC sources, “She may need surgery and she might have broken her hip.”
In a photo recently released by the CODEL in Luxembourg, Pelosi was seen tightly gripping the hand of a congressman near her, suggesting she needed his help to stand.
Pelosi has served in Congress for 37 years, since 1987 when she was first elected US House Rep. for California’s 5th district. The elderly statesman’s accident is being highlighted as an example of why Congress needs to impose term limits.
