The U.S. military on Saturday shot down the CCP spy balloon that had spent days floating across the continental United States.
The surveillance balloon was shot down from 58,000 feet by F-22s over the coast of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, after the FAA shut down numerous airports and closed the airspace around the area.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin issued a statement patting Biden on the back for ordering the balloon’s takedown, albeit days after it initially entered U.S. airspace.
“Today’s deliberate and lawful action demonstrates that President Biden and his national security team will always put the safety and security of the American people first while responding effectively to the PRC’s unacceptable violation of our sovereignty,” he said.
After intense public outcry, when asked Saturday what the government had planned to do about the balloon after it began drifting east toward the Atlantic Ocean, Joe Biden had replied, “we’ll take care of it.”

This military action marks a significant reversal of the Pentagon’s initial stance on the spy balloon, with a spokesman stating Friday that the balloon would not be taken down due to the “size of the payload.”

Many Americans called the shoot-down too little too late considering the surveillance balloon had been allowed to float above the U.S. for days to monitor sensitive military installations in places like Montana.
