California attorney Julie Hamill got into a spat with CNN anchor Brianna Keilar on Friday while discussing the widely debated topic of transgenders participating in female high school sports.
The women specifically debated the situation surrounding California transgender athlete A.B. Hernandez, who will be participating in this weekend’s California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) State Track and Field Championships.

Keilar was very confused during the interview & struggled to keep up.
Keilar: What would make this fair for her to compete?

President Trump has threatened to withhold federal funding to California for violating his “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports” executive order, signed earlier this year.
Asking Hamill about Hernandez, Keilar said, “What would make this fair for her to compete, for those who are competing against her? What would that kind of structure in competition look like?”
Refusing to engage in the left’s war on language, Keilar responded by asking, “Who is her?”
When the CNN reporter said, “A.B.,” the attorney quickly replied, “Okay, A.B. Hernandez is a male who identifies as a female. What would be fair is to have Hernandez competing in the male category. It is not fair for the females competing to have to compete with a male.”
The Trump administration says federal law Title IX, which bans sex-based discrimination in education, is being violated by the state because it’s allowing males to play female sports.
When Keilar suggested that removing federal funding will harm California student athletes, Hamill pointed out it’s not President Trump’s fault the state is violating federal law.
“Taking away federal funds is going to hurt all California kids, which is why the State of California needs to comply with federal law,” Hamill said.
Next, the CNN journalist bizarrely claimed, “There needs to be a lot more research on trans athletes” to find out if they truly have an unfair advantage over female competitors.
Keilar continued to refer to the biological male as “she” and “her,” asking Hamill, “So when you’re looking at an athlete like AB Hernandez, what would you have her do so that she can benefit from sporting?”
“I view AB Hernandez as the victim in this situation,” the lawyer said. “I feel for him, and I feel that he has been lied to for his entire life, and it’s probably very destabilizing and difficult for him right now to realize that what he has been told is not actually reality. He can not become a girl.”
The remark clearly upset the mainstream media journalist, who responded, “Julie, can we stick to sports? Let’s stick to the sports. So you say compete in the male category or what?”
Hamill said trans players could compete against their biological counterparts or that the state could establish a separate category for transgender athletes.
“It’s very unfair for our girls and women in California to have to compete with males, to have to share facilities with males and then not be able to speak up about the unfairness because people are going to label them as bigots,” Hamill said to conclude the interview.
