Joe Biden’s “obvious cognitive decline” was the most underreported story of 2024, CBS News reporter Jan Crawford claimed on Sunday, admitting to the corporate media’s central role in covering it up.
Crawford explained during a roundtable discussion on “Face the Nation” Sunday that the overall landscape of the 2024 election could have been favorable to Democrats had the media owned up to Biden’s declining mental acuity early on.
“Under-covered and underreported, that would be, to me, Joe Biden’s obvious cognitive decline that became undeniable in the televised debate,” she said.

They really needed a Wall Street Journal “report” to notice that?

She went on to point out the Wall Street Journal’s reporting that White House advisors covered up Biden’s mental decline over the past four years, nearly the entirety of his presidency.
The report outlined how advisors and aides worked to limit Biden’s public appearances, increasingly scripted his interactions, and kept his schedule tightly controlled.
Crawford lamented that if Biden’s advisors had just owned up to his cognitive decline, the Democrats could have carried out a proper primary process with a more robust candidate to face off against Donald Trump.
“And yet he insisted that he could still run for president. We should have much more forcefully questioned whether he was fit for office for another four years, which could have led to a primary for the Democrats,” Crawford said.
“It could have changed the scope of the entire election,” she noted.
Biden over the weekend, according to his advisors, said he regretted dropping out of the race to make way for Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential nominee, which Crawford said was probably “gaslighting” by his aides.
“Yet, still, incredibly, we read in the Washington Post that his advisors are saying that he regrets that he dropped out of the race, that he thinks he could have beaten Trump. And I think that is either delusional or that they’re gaslighting the American people,” she said.
Underscoring the media’s reticence to admit Biden’s cognitive decline, CBS correspondent Robert Costa dismissed the reports and Crawford’s take, claiming Biden said he was just “sick” during his ill-fated debate against Trump in June.
“President Biden has said repeatedly he was sick during the debate on June 27th in Atlanta, and he’s always been fine and he leaves fine. That is his position, the position of his top aides as well, even though there is that reporting,” Costa argued.
The major question left unanswered by the WSJ’s reporting: who exactly was in control of the White House amid Biden’s steady cognitive decline?
