CNN’s Brian Stelter is asking networks to censor news of President Donald Trump’s visit to the border wall on Tuesday.
Labeling the president’s event commemorating the completion of 450 miles of border wall in South Texas a “stunt,” the Reliable Sources host’s latest newsletter claimed there’s danger in airing Trump’s speech and suggested networks are irresponsible if they do so following the events at the US Capitol last week.
“Ostensibly he is going there to celebrate the southern border wall,” reads Stelter’s newsletter. “But there’s a lot of concern about what he’ll say and how he’ll say it.”
“Let me just reiterate what I said on CNN Monday morning: Responsible TV networks will not air Trump live and in full. Not after his incitement last week.”
Stelter also takes a jab at Fox News, claiming they’ll likely air the speech “while other outlets exercise editorial judgement and ingest what he says, then decide if any of it is newsworthy.”
In other words, they’re going censor the president and will only air excerpts which fit their talking points.

On Tuesday ahead of his trip to South Texas, Trump defended his remarks in Washington DC, asserting they were “totally appropriate.”
On a related note, newsletter co-author Oliver Darcy last week called on cable companies to drop Fox News following the chaos that erupted at the Capitol.
“After Wednesday’s incident of domestic terrorism on Capitol Hill, it is time TV carriers face questions for lending their platforms to dishonest companies that profit off of disinformation and conspiracy theories,” Darcy demanded.
