George Washington University rejected a petition by students calling for the removal of Justice Clarence Thomas from his teaching gig next semester.
On Tuesday, the college sent an email to students indicating they would not terminate Thomas’ employment as an adjunct professor, saying the university values debate.

“Because we steadfastly support the robust exchange of ideas and deliberation, and because debate is an essential part of our university’s academic and educational mission to train future leaders who are prepared to address the world’s most urgent problems, the university will neither terminate Justices Thomas’ employment nor cancel his class in response to his legal opinions,” the school’s email stated.
According to student newspaper The GW Hatchet, Thomas has lectured at the university since 2011, however, the conservative justice’s recent vote in favor of rescinding federal abortion protections crossed the line, some students said.
Furthermore, students were also triggered over Thomas’ opinion in the Roe v. Wade ruling suggesting the court should revisit previous decisions on gay marriage, sodomy and contraceptives he believes may have been unconstitutional.
The woke petition, hosted at Change.org, stated, “With the recent Supreme Court decision that has stripped the right to bodily autonomy of people with wombs, and with his explicit intention to further strip the rights of queer people and remove the ability for people to practice safe sex without fear of pregnancy, it is evident that the employment of Clarence Thomas at George Washington University is completely unacceptable.”
The appeal went on to falsely claim Thomas’ wife, lawyer Ginny Thomas, had a “part in the attempted coup in January of 2021,” and accused the associate SCOTUS justice of “actively making life unsafe for thousands of students on our campus (not to mention thousands of campuses across the country).”
“Make your voice heard and help us kick Clarence Thomas out of Foggy Bottom,” concluded the cringe-worthy petition, signed by over 7,000 students as of writing.
According to GW Law School’s list of courses, Thomas is scheduled to teach a Constitutional Law Seminar in Fall 2022.
