A Colorado school district has a system to keep parents in the dark on their child’s gender transition in schools, according to Fox News.
The Jeffco Public School District drafted a “gender-affirming toolkit” that discusses how to deal with parents and how the district was aiding in the transition of kids, the outlet reported.
Fox News states:
Starting as early as elementary school, the district appeared to leave the option open to keep parents in the dark about their kids’ gender expression. Fox News Digital requested clarification from the district on the wording of its toolkit but did not immediately receive a response.
The toolkit’s policy about elementary students states, “If school staff believe that a gender identity or expression issue is presenting itself and creating difficulty for the child at school, approaching parents/guardians about the issue is appropriate at the elementary level. Together the family and school can then identify appropriate steps to support the student.”

Jeffco Public Schools’s confidential gender support plans, reviewed by Fox News Digital, allow for careful planning to keep parents out of the loop. The plan solicits information whether the student’s parents are “aware and supportive of their child’s gender status” and “what considerations must be accounted for in implementing this plan” if parents would not be supportive.
Last year, a Florida school district likewise promoted a similar toolkit which states that before notifying “any parent or guardian regarding the transition process, school staff should work closely with the student to assess the degree to which, if any, the parent(s) or guardian will be involved in the process and must carefully consider the health, well-being and safety of the transitioning student.”
Additionally, the Epoch Times reported that in California, “trans closets” -rooms stocked with transgender clothes and accessories for students – were discovered in public schools which were also intended to keep parents in the dark.
When a school district in Virginia also tried to enact trans closets, Gov. Glenn Youngkin pushed back.
“At the heart of all of these topics is parents and what I’m continually surprised by is really the approach that would push parents out of any decision that’s material in their child’s life and to write a regulation for a school that says don’t tell parents is just wrong,” he stated.
