A close aide to the Biden family was embedded in the office of Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss for years by the time his office launched an investigation into Hunter Biden.
Alexander Mackler was deeply connected to the Biden family for years while he worked for Weiss’ office from 2016-2019, reported the Washington Examiner.
First, Mackler worked as press secretary to Sen. Joe Biden, then later as Biden’s legal counsel when he was vice president.
He also worked as campaign manager for Beau Biden’s successful Delaware Attorney General campaign in 2010.
In 2020, he worked on the Biden-Harris transition team and helped draft the Justice Department’s policy under Biden.
And perhaps most importantly, Mackler was Hunter Biden’s personal confidant — referring to him as “brother” in emails — during the time Weiss’ office had opened an investigation into Hunter Biden’s financial dealings by January 2019.
In other words, a close friend of Hunter was also working at the very prosecutorial office while it was investigating Hunter.
From the Washington Examiner:
Mackler’s deep connections to the Biden family raise questions about whether he should ever have come close to an investigation involving the Bidens.
He emailed with Hunter Biden and Eric Schwerin, one of Hunter Biden’s business partners, on what appears to be the first day of his new job at the Delaware U.S. attorney’s office to talk about the office’s email retention policy.
Schwerin joked to Mackler that his response was “the last email you ever receive from me.”
Days after Mackler had started working for the U.S. attorney’s office, he was still working with the Bidens, according to Hunter Biden’s emails.
Mackler helped edit public statements related to the launch of an institute in Joe Biden’s name at the University of Delaware while working for the Delaware U.S. attorney’s office, for example.
Perhaps House Republicans will investigate whether Mackler’s close relationship with Hunter had any bearing on the fact that Weiss blocked key elements of the Hunter Biden investigation, as revealed by two IRS whistleblowers.
The DOJ said that Weiss would be available to testify to the House Oversight Committee about his investigation into Hunter on Sept. 27, Sept. 28, Oct. 18 and Oct. 19.
