Dystopian footage out of New York City shows a DARPA-funded Boston Dynamics robot patrolling the streets with police officers.
The viral video taken by a stunned passer-by shows the infamous robot, painted blue and mounted with motion sensors, exiting the police station with several officers to patrol the streets.
“I never seen nothing like this before in my life,” the woman says. “Do you see this?”
“Oh, that thing moves better than a dog! That’s R2-D2!”
The robot-creep into law enforcement and military applications was not lost on social media users.
“We’ve seen where this goes,” one user said, referring to AI hunters in the Black Mirror episode “Metalhead”.

Throughout the years-long development of the dog-like robot, Boston Dynamics has been trying to portray it as friendly and novel with promotional videos showing robots dancing.
Harrison watches the live protest taking place outside of Georgia Governor’s mansion, and a robot dog shows up.
