Update (Oct. 25 1:14PM CST): After just 24 hours, 30 House Democrats have RETRACTED their letter to the Biden administration calling for a reversal of its current war hawk policy in Ukraine in favor of encouraging diplomatic talks with Russia to end the conflict.
In a statement Tuesday announcing their retraction, Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) blamed the release of the letter on a staffer, and claimed that diplomacy with Russia can only be achieved with “Ukrainian victory.”

“The Congressional Progressive Caucus hereby withdraws its recent letter to the White House regarding Ukraine.”
“The letter was drafted several months ago, but unfortunately was released by staff without vetting. As Chair of the Caucus, I accept responsibility for this. Because of the timing, our message is being conflated by some as being equivalent to the recent statement by Republican Leader McCarthy threatening an end to aid to Ukraine if Republicans take over. The proximity of these statements created the unfortunate appearance that Democrats, who have strongly and unanimously supported and voted for every package of military, strategic, and economic assistance to the Ukrainian people, are somehow aligned with Republicans who seek to pull the plug on American support for President Zelensky and the Ukrainian forces.”
“Nothing could be further from the truth. Every war ends with diplomacy, and this one will too after Ukrainian victory. The letter sent yesterday, although restating that basic principle, has been conflated with GOP opposition to support for the Ukrainians’ just defense of their national sovereignty. As such, it is a distraction at this time and we withdraw the letter.”
It appears the Democrat Party is now officially the pro-war political party, and nuclear war with Russia may now be back on the table.
Honestly, I'd rather resign my seat in Congress than subject myself to a spectacle this humiliating. They couldn't even stand behind the slightest war dissent for 24 hours.
Also, this statement is a lie: the vast majority of GOP fully supports Biden's war policies in Ukraine. pic.twitter.com/fZTQD8phEt

Original story below:
In a massive policy about-face, 30 House Democrats are now urging the Biden regime to reconsider its hardline approach to the Ukraine conflict, noting Biden’s escalatory policy toward Russia is jeopardizing the Democrats’ midterm prospects.
In a letter Monday led by Congressional Progressive Caucus chair Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), the 30 Democrats call on Biden to work toward a “ceasefire” with Russia.
“Given the destruction created by this war for Ukraine and the world, as well as the risk of catastrophic escalation, we also believe it is in the interests of Ukraine, the United States, and the world to avoid a prolonged conflict,” the letter states.
“For this reason, we urge you to pair the military and economic support the United States has provided to Ukraine with a proactive diplomatic push, redoubling efforts to seek a realistic framework for a ceasefire. This is consistent with your recognition that ‘there’s going to have to be a negotiated settlement here,’ and your concern that Vladimir Putin ‘doesn’t have a way out right now, and I’m trying to figure out what we do about that.’”
Jayapal reiterated her colleagues’ new position to the Washington Post, arguing that Biden now needs to seek a “proactive diplomatic push” toward peace with Russia.
“The longer the war in Ukraine goes on, the greater the risk of escalation — to widespread, devastating effect,” Jayapal said in a statement to The Washington Post. “We should have no illusions about the challenge ahead of us, but…my colleagues and I are urging the Administration to engage in a proactive diplomatic push in an effort to seek a realistic framework for a ceasefire.”
The letter included signatures from most of the far-left “Squad,” including Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), as well as other prominent liberals like Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) and Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas).
The letter marks a significant departure from the Democrats’ “as long as it takes” stance on the Ukraine conflict, previously supporting sanctions and energy embargoes against Russia, escalatory arms transfers to Ukraine, and even calls for a preemptive nuclear strike against Russia.
Recall that every single House Democrat last May voted for the $40 billion spending bill that effectively drew the U.S. deeper into war with Russia, with 57 House Republicans voting against.
But Biden’s funneling billions of dollars and weapons to Ukraine and dismissing negotiations with Russia has exacerbated America’s energy crisis to such a point that his Ukraine policy is now hurting Democrats’ chances to win the midterm elections.
For example, Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) was confronted by angry constituents earlier this month for supporting Biden’s endless Ukraine war policy amid massive domestic crises driven by record-high inflation.
“Why can’t you be more like Tulsi Gabbard?” one voter asked, referring to the anti-war former Democrat congresswoman. “You ran as an outsider, yet you’ve been voting to start this war in Ukraine. You’re voting to start a third nuclear war with Russia and China.”

Recent polls show the American people are growing tired of the Biden administration’s continued financial and military support of Ukraine, especially as more pressing energy and economic problems go unaddressed domestically.
