Children in the Sunshine State will not be required to receive experimental mRNA Covid jabs during Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ (R) tenure.

The governor made the declaration during a press conference Thursday, where he addressed the CDC’s recent vote to add Covid-19 vaccines to the federal childhood immunization schedule.

“There’s been a lot of questions to our office about the CDC potentially adding COVID vaccines to the childhood immunization schedule. And I know a lot of parents are concerned about that because if that’s on the immunization schedule, the fear is that schools could potentially mandate your child to get a COVID shot even if that’s not something that you want to do,” DeSantis told a crowd.

“So I just want to let everyone be clear, you know, as long as I’m around, as long as I’m kicking and screaming, there will be no COVID shot mandates for your kids. That is your decision,” DeSantis said as the crowd cheered in support. “That is your decision to make as a parent.”

The governor’s reassurances to parents come as the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices voted 15-0 this week to add vaccine recommendations for children and adolescents to their immunization schedule starting at 6 months of age.
