ABC News, which is owned by Disney Entertainment, defended a group of pro-LGBT activists who use rainbow umbrellas to block protesters from seeing children brought to gay pride events and drag queen story hours by their parents.
“Meet the team facing off against anti-LGBTQ groups at drag queen story hours,” ABC titled its piece highlighting the “Parasol Patrol.”
“It’s a group of dedicated volunteers who use rainbow umbrellas to shield children and families so they can enjoy these events without the watchful eye of anti-LGBTQ protestors,” ABC reported.
The puff piece went on to claim the group aims to “keep LGBTQ-friendly safe spaces across the country as they are meant to be — ‘safe,’” not-so-subtly implying they’re unsafe when activists protest against children being sexually groomed.
“Volunteers go through a training, where they’re taught to be non-confrontational, and to not engage with potentially dangerous protestors,” ABC News continued, again without evidence claiming anti-groomer activists are “potentially dangerous.”
Unsurprisingly, the Disney affiliate seized the opportunity to mention their parent company’s brand in their story:
Volunteer Heather Spillman recalled facing off with a vocal group of protestors, and the volunteer patrollers broke into Disney songs — singing “the entire score from ‘Frozen.’
Proud Boys showed up last week in Silver Spring and assaulted several members of Parasol Patrol.
Volunteers are not deterred, and have shown up in force in rainbow umbrellas. There are around 100 Parasol Patrol volunteers in a line of rainbow umbrellas. pic.twitter.com/1zoyIRHvLA

Curiously, ABC’s fawning article on the “Groomer Guard,” as it’s affectionately referred to by Not The Bee, didn’t cover the other side of the argument — specifically that “Leave our kids alone” activists don’t want children to be sexualized, groomed or subjected to perverted material.
From Not The Bee:
…Yeah, according to ABC, these are the good guys.
Letting grown men dress in women’s underwear and do strip shows is totally appropriate for kids, but if they see a Christian holding up a sign telling people to repent, or if they see a moderate liberal hold up a sign saying “Don’t strip in front of kids” then they need a whole army to protect them.
Commenters on social media were suspicious of why the Parasol Patrol would want to obscure the acts if they were not controversial, and were dubious of ABC’s propaganda piece.
Wanting to shield their interactions with children from the public, that's not suspicious at all

It's interesting how ABC positioned these volunteers as the good guys.

Drag queens performing strip shows for children is sick. Adults can do what they want, but children must be protected.

We’re certainly adrift in Clown World when the people advocating for the sexualization of children against “leave our kids alone” protesters are being defended by the mainstream media.
