CNN host and Washington Post columnist Fareed Zakaria admitted what most Democrats refuse to acknowledge: inflation is real and is hurting their election odds.
In an appearance on HBO’s “Real Time” with Bill Maher, Zakaria revealed that efforts by Democrats to downplay inflation aren’t working because they “don’t realize how spooky inflation is to most people.”
“I think the biggest issue is the economy and inflation. So, if you look at — if you ask people what they think of the economy right now, the pessimism is about as strong as it was in the depths of the ’08 financial crisis,” Zakaria said Friday. “And inflation is particular — we’ve lived for so long in a period of low inflation, we don’t realize how spooky inflation is to most people.”
“Unemployment affects the people who are unemployed and their families, 10-15%. Inflation affects everyone, and it robs middle-class people of their savings. It makes people, every time they go to the gas station, every time you go to the grocery store, you’re reminded of it,” he explained.
“There’s a reason why inflation is what causes political revolutions…So, I mean, inflation is much more corrosive than I think people realize. So, I think that’s probably the biggest explanation,” he added.
Zakaria’s remarks are a real departure from the narrative put out by Democrats, who’ve been gaslighting the American people with claims that inflation is simply a Republican talking point ahead of the midterm elections.
For example, MSNBC host Joy Reid claimed Friday that most people didn’t know what inflation was until Republicans started talking about it.

Likewise, Joe Biden has been falsely claiming on the campaign trail that the economy was in terrible shape before he came into office, and that inflation is going down under his watch.

It seems the Democrats’ lies can’t cover up the real economic pain felt by the majority of Americans.
