Viral flashback footage circulating on social media shows Broward County bond court Judge John Hurley berating a lawyer for attempting to pull the race card in a case that involved a police encounter.
In the footage from 2015, Hurley stops a lawyer from attempting to claim his client, who had fired shots at officers earlier, was running and hiding from police because he feared for his life.
“Your honor, in light of what’s happening in this country, with unarmed black men being killed by police,” the lawyer attempts to argue before being interrupted by Hurley.
“Don’t even go down that road,” the judge says. “I am not going to let you go down that road.”
Unfortunately, Hurley left the bench after serving for eight years.
