GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert ruffled feathers with a pro-Second Amendment ad declaring she’ll be concealed-carrying her Glock when she starts her new job in Congress.
The freshman pro-Trump Republican made the declaration in a recent ad, explaining why she chooses to carry in the nation’s capital.
“I will carry my firearm in DC and in Congress,” Boebert says in the ad. “This caused outrage from democrats and the media. Why? It’s our job in Congress to defend your rights, including your Second Amendment – and that’s exactly what I’m here to do.”
Boebert lists several reasons for needing a gun in DC, including that it’s one of the top 10 most dangerous cities in the country.
“I don’t go to work in a motorcade or armored car. I don’t get police escorts everywhere I go. I walk to my office every morning by myself. So as a five-foot-tall 100 pound woman, I choose to protect myself legally, because I am my best security.”
Following the ad, DC Chief of Police Robert Contee stated he planned to meet with Boebert to make sure “she is aware of what the laws of the District of Columbia are.”
“That Congresswoman will be subjected to the same penalties as anyone else that’s caught on the D.C. streets carrying a firearm,” he stated.
CBS Denver reports Boebert successfully led an effort against a proposed House of Representatives rule change aimed at prohibiting legislators from possessing firearms on Capitol grounds.
“I led eighty-two of my colleagues in fighting back, and we won,” Boebert stated.
Boebert will be among the over 140 Republican House reps that plan to object to the Electoral College certification of fraudulent election results on January 6.
