A gym in New Jersey is choosing a side in the vaccine debate by offering free memberships to people who refuse to take the Covid-19 vaccination.
On Tuesday, the owner of the embattled Atilis Gym in Bellmawr announced he would waive his business’s $24 per month membership fee for the unvaccinated in response to a somewhat similar offer from Krispy Kreme.
“In light of @krispykreme giving free donuts for receiving the CVD shot, here at @TheAtilisGym we are giving out free memberships to all who don’t get vaccinated,” gym owner Ian Smith declared on Twitter.
“We believe in health – the real way – exercise, good diet, plenty of Vitamin D, Zinc, and an environment to destress.”
Earlier this week, donut chain Krispy Kreme announced a promo beginning Monday which would give one free doughnut per day through the end of 2021 to “anyone who shows their COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card.”
(In the offer’s fine print, Krispy Kreme also offers a free donut and coffee for people who “have made the personal decision to not receive the COVID vaccine” on Mondays.)
Atilis Gym made headlines throughout 2020 for refusing to shutter their business amid statewide lockdown orders, even after the state issued over 60 citations and assessed over $1.2 million in fines.
