Speaking with the media on Wednesday, NFL superstar Aaron Rodgers addressed recent comments made by one of the league’s 50 Most Valuable Player voters.
Chicago sportswriter Hub Arkush, who is probably just upset that Rodgers “owns” the Chicago Bears, told a local radio show he won’t be voting for the Green Bay quarterback in this year’s MVP race.
Arkush wasn’t shy about the fact that Rodgers’ on-the-field play has nothing to do with his voting decision.
“I don’t think you can be the biggest jerk in the league and punish your team, and your organization and your fan base the way he did and be the Most Valuable Player,” Arkush told 670 The Score in Chicago on Tuesday. “Has he been the most valuable on the field? Yeah, you could make that argument, but I don’t think he is clearly that much more valuable than Jonathan Taylor or Cooper Kupp or maybe even Tom Brady. So, from where I sit, the rest of it is why he’s not gonna be my choice.”
The arrogant sportswriter added, “There’s no guidelines. We are told to pick the guy who we think is most valuable to his team. And I don’t think it says anywhere, ‘strictly on the field,’ although I do think he hurt his team on the field by the way he acted off the field. They’re gonna get the No. 1 seed anyway, but what if the difference had come down to the Chiefs game, where he lied about being vaccinated, ended up not playing and they got beat? I think all these things should be considerations.”
Finally, Arkush revealed the true source of his anger towards Rodgers, saying, “I just think that the way he’s carried himself is inappropriate. And the vaccine thing was just one more log on the fire, so to speak. I think he’s a bad guy, and I don’t think a bad guy can be the most valuable guy at the same time.”
When a reporter asked Rodgers if he’d like to comment on the Chicago writer’s remarks, the three-time MVP said, “He’s a bum. I think he’s an absolute bum.”
“He doesn’t know me,” Rodgers added. “I don’t know who he is, no one knew who he was probably until yesterday’s comments. I mean, to say he had his mind made up in the summertime, in the offseason, that I had zero chance of winning MVP, in my opinion, should exclude future votes.”
He continued, “His problem isn’t with me being a ‘bad guy’ or the ‘biggest jerk in the league,’ because he doesn’t know me. I’ve never met him, I’ve never had lunch with him, I’ve never had an interview with him. His problem is I’m not vaccinated.”
Rodgers joked that if Arkush wants to go on a crusade to add another letter to MVP and make the award called the Most Valuable Vaccinated Player for this season, then he should do that.
