Homicides have plummeted in Denver, Colorado after ICE immigration raids swept up large numbers of foreign criminals in the city and the state.
The 60% fall is one of the largest in the US.
“Violent crime is just about reducing in every city, but we were the city in which it had declined the most,” said Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas.
The Denver area has been a priority for immigration enforcement under the new Trump administration.
ICE arrested over 350 illegal aliens across multiple cities including Denver, and made the Venezuelan criminal gang Tren de Aragua a particular focus.
Despite the success of the ICE raids, Colorado politicians, including Governor Jared Polis and Denver mayor Mike Johnston, have refused to support the new administration and its immigration policies.
The Trump administration has initiated legal proceedings against the city of Denver and state officials for obstructing federal immigration enforcement.
