In Germany, a 20-year-old woman has been given a jail sentence for making “hateful” remarks about a migrant who took part in the gang-rape of a child. The woman made the remarks in a WhatsApp post. She was sentenced to spend a weekend in a juvenile prison, while all but one of the rapists walked free.
The case stems from a from a 2020 case in which a 14-year-old girl was gang-raped for hours by at least nine men with migrant backgrounds, in Hamburg. The case caused outrage when eight out of the nine perpetrators identified didn’t even go to prison, but received suspended sentences. A single rapist was sent to juvenile prison for two years.
The young woman who has just been jailed contacted one of the perpetrators when his personal information was leaked on the internet. She called him a “dishonorable rapist pig” and a “disgusting monstrosity.”
According to her indictment, she also told the man he would be unable to go anywhere without “getting punched in the face,” and asked “Aren’t you ashamed when you look in the mirror?”
Authorities in Hamburg are still investigating up to 140 people who sent insulting messages and threats to the rapists.
